National Senior Health & Fitness Day

This might be National Senior Health & Fitness Day, but KYW’s Michelle Durham tells us there’s a group of seniors in Rydal that makes fitness a priority every day. Personal Trainer Angie McNellis works with the residents at the Rydal Park community. She says seniors require strength training with a memory component and balance excerises so she varies their workouts.

“Water aerobics. Tai chi. Balance classes. Step. In the pool aerobics. Water walking. Walking outside. And then strength training in the fitness center.”

Janice Meyer, a Rydal Park resident, was being put through her paces on an excerise bike.

“I try to come down here often and do this.”

McNellis has these tips for the seniors she doesn’t work with.

“Every time you step in and out of a car, you are on different levels so you want to make sure you are aware of your surroundings.”

And she says manging stress is really imporant for this generation because stress is inevitable.
